The hosts seized control early with a 32-23 first quarter and reached halftime up nine, 53-44. Colombia stayed close through a 21-21 second period, but the decisive stretch came in the third: the United States closed the quarter on a 27-12 run to open a 24-point lead, 80-56.
Cole Swider added 18 points and eight rebounds off the bench, while Orlando Robinson had 17 and nine boards in the starting lineup. The U.S. offense spread the scoring load: five players finished with at least 16 points, including Jaron Blossomgame, James Nunnally and DeJon Jarreau.
For Colombia, Braian Angola paced the team with 19 points, followed by Jaime Echenique with 16 and eight rebounds. Yet the visitors lacked offensive rhythm after the break: they finished at 35.4% from the field (29/82) with just 17 assists.
Rebounding and ball movement made the difference. The United States finished with 50 boards and 28 assists to Colombia's 40 and 17. Mike James ran the offense with nine assists despite scoring only 11 points. A 24-24 fourth quarter only confirmed a game that had already been settled.
The result moves the United States to 2-0 in Americas Group E after two second-round games. Colombia drop to 0-2 in the group. The win strengthens the Americans' position at the top of the pool; for Colombia, the defeat leaves them needing a response in a group where ground has already been lost.
